Robert Joel Gerig was born November 29, 1961 the son of Joe and Lorene Gerig. He grew up in Los Angeles and in Utah, before marring Karen and settling down in Thousand Oaks in 1986. Robert was in the construction business during the day, and a Thousand Oaks Little League coach and board member in the afternoons and evenings. He coached his older son Joey (22) and his younger son Jordan (14) for many years in our league.
His older son Joey pitched for our 2006 Big League World Series Team. Robert could never get enough baseball and especially Thousand Oaks Little League baseball.
Two weeks ago, I ran into Robert on the Major's field as he was watching a baseball game. I walked up to him and gave him a hug and said "what brings you to these parts" He turned to me and said, "there is always time in the day to watch some good baseball especially, Thousand Oaks Little League baseball".
Several days after that comment his time ran out to watch good TOLL baseball. Bobby passed away suddenly at the age of 47, leaving behind a wife and five lovely kids. He was a loving husband and a devoted father. He had a passion for baseball, and a true love for Thousand Oaks Little League.
He his now in heaven where all the games go extra innings, and the games end with a walk off home run.
We love you Robert, thanks for all that you have done for the community, our league and most of all just being a friend.
Godspeed, you will be missed.
Your friend,
John A. Short III

Los Angeles Police Medal of Valor
The medal is awarded by the Los Angeles Board of Police Commissioners and is annually presented by the Chief of Police to the receiving officers at an awards ceremony named after the medal. The award consists of a medal, ribbon, and a citation. The Medal of Valor was first presented to a LAPD officer in 1925. Since 1959, the award ceremonies have been sponsored by the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce.
The Medal of Valor is an award for bravery, usually given for individual acts of extraordinary bravery or heroism performed in the line of duty at extreme, life threatening, personal risk. It is meant to recognize officers whose actions could be considered as having gone above and beyond the call of duty, or to recognize an officer who has performed an act of bravery displaying an extreme amount of courage while knowingly facing imminent danger.
On the afternoon of Sunday July 10th, 2005 a desperate 16 year old girl called 911, telling the dispatcher her stepfather had threatened her life. By the time the Los Angeles Police officers arrived the stepfather was shooting at his 16 year old stepdaughter. Several officers were involved in the gun battle that saved the girls life.
I had the opportunity to go to a luncheon to honor one of LA's finest Mr. Jeff Ennis as he received his Medal of Valor for putting his life on the line to save another's.
I am so very proud to know Jeff, and even prouder of the fact that he risks his life each and every day for the citizens of Los Angeles.
God Bless you Jeff, may the Lord continue to watch over you each and every day you go to work.
On behalf of the Board of Directors for TOLL, and the entire league… congratulations…..

Trek for troops, Inspiring people to help make a difference in our severely wounded
veteran’s lives by taking on the challenge of the Pacific Crest Trail and spreading
their message through music in order to raise money and awareness for Homes
for Our Troops. A charity that helps ensure we fulfill our obligations to those
who unselfishly serve our Country.
Trek for Troops
is a group of three young men from Westlake
Village, CA, who are using their talents
to raise funds and awareness for the charity
Homes for our Troops. Homes for our Troops
builds houses for our most severely wounded
combat veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan,
ensuring that these brave men and women enjoy,
at the very least, the dignity of owning
a home that accommodates their needs. These
American heroes sacrifice much in the name
of freedom, and so Trek for Troops is giving
something back to them in the name of the
American dream. To raise awareness and funds,
Trek for Troops will hike the 2600 mile Pacific
Crest Trail. Beginning on the Mexican border
and ending in Manning Park, British Columbia,
the trail travels along desert valleys and
mountain crests through California, Oregon
and Washington. The journey will take the
men four months to complete during which
they will re-supply in towns along the way.
As the trip approaches, the "Map" section
of this site will track their progress and
inform you when they will be arriving in
towns. Along their journey, and now as they
raise funds for the cause, the three spread
their message of hope and volunteerism through
personally arranged music. Some examples
of their songs are found on this site or
can be located by searching "Trek for Troops" on YouTube.

Dear Thousand Oaks Little League Families,
As the season officially comes to a close there are many great memories to reflect on from last summer and this year.
The joint efforts of Thousand Oaks and Conejo Valley Little Leagues raised over $125,000 in 3 days during the ALS Strike Out Lou Gehrig's disease tournament held last summer. This was an outstanding effort by the community of Thousand Oaks, demonstrating that cross town rivals can come together for a great organization.
Our all star program produced great results last summer. We had 2 teams win sportsmanship awards in two different tournaments. In addition the TOLL 10 year old team won both the district and section tournaments and played deep into the divisional tournament. Our 12 year old team won district and went deep into the sectional tournament. Our motto is a simple one: "Thousand Oaks Little League is feared by most on the field and loved by all off the field". Last summer our all star program demonstrated this in a very meaningful fashion.
For years I have been talking about the "new" lang ranch park, which is going to be the future permanent home for TOLL. Last spring, the Conejo Recreation and Park District approved the master plan for the park. This spring the park district hired a construction firm to start the project. The future permanent home for TOLL is fast becoming a reality.
On behalf of the board of directors for Thousand Oaks Little League, "thanks for choosing us as your source of America's favorite pastime, and remember TOLL Rocks and that's the bottom line".
Why wait to sign up for next years season. We are offering you this years prices for next years season.
Head Managers and Assistant Coaches Wanted!!
Did you have fun coaching this past season? Do you feel like maybe you would want to coach next year? Well fill out the application and send it into the P.O.Box….
Spring is just around the corner and once again, Thousand Oaks Little League (TOLL) is gearing up for
another successful year.
TOLL is open to all boys and girls, ages four to eighteen. We utilize America’s
favorite pastime to develop the hallmarks of a positive growth environment for children such as teamwork,
sportsmanship, self-esteem and confidence.
In doing so, we hope to provide today’s children with the
necessary skills to become tomorrow’s leaders.
However, we can’t do it alone. As the saying goes (and we firmly believe) “It takes a village!” For our part, the Board of Directors has once again committed itself to:
1. Subsidize league costs through corporate sponsorship to make participation an option for ALL families, regardless of their economic situation; and
2. Maintain the healthy, competitive and most importantly a FUN
environment for Little League
Baseball.
In order to help our league meet these goals, we are asking for your financial help in sponsoring a Board Sign
Just as with other community sports programs, the success of Thousand Oaks Little League is directly tied to parental involvement.
TOLL is an all-volunteer program where our kids can learn, play and compete with other youths with similar interests and is dependent on all parents participating and making a contribution toward the accomplishment of the League's goals.
Parent participation is necessary and essential to the success of the program. All parents must volunteer some time during the season. Parent participation may take many forms.
There are many volunteer opportunities available such as coaching, scorekeeping, umpiring, acting as the team parent, or helping with field preparation, maintenance and clean-up.
There are additional opportunities to volunteer by helping with one of our annual activities such as the Opening Day Ceremonies, the Golf Tournament, the Over-the-Line Tournament, or you can sponsor a team by making a monetary contribution.
When your team's coach or team parent approaches you to volunteer some of your time to the success of your team and the League, please do so enthusiastically - and keep in mind that without our parent volunteers the League could not exist.
